He then completed a PhD at the Beatson Institute for Cancer Research and trained in Medical Oncology at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre. In 2010 he was appointed Clinical Senior Lecturer in the School of Cancer Sciences, University of Glasgow and Honorary Consultant in Medical Oncology at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre where he specialises in the treatment of breast cancer. He is Chief Investigator of the HER2-RADiCAL study and co-Chief Investigator for OPTIMA, with both studies aiming to advance more personalised approaches to the treatment of early breast cancer.
He sits on the TMG of numerous other breast cancer studies. He is Clinical Lead for the Scottish Cancer Research Network (SCRN) – West, Chair of the Scottish Cancer Trials Breast Group, and has served as a member of the NCRI Breast Clinical Studies Group, the Breast Cancer Now Scientific Advisory Board and the West of Scotland Research Ethics Committee.
