Dr Iain Macpherson trained in medicine at the University of Glasgow, graduating in 1998. He then completed a PhD at the Beatson Institute for Cancer Research and trained in Medical Oncology at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre. In 2010 he was appointed Clinical Senior Lecturer in the School of Cancer Sciences, University of Glasgow and Honorary Consultant in Medical Oncology at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre where he specialises in the treatment of breast cancer. He is Chief Investigator of the HER2-RADiCAL study and co-Chief Investigator for OPTIMA, with both studies aiming to advance more personalised approaches to the treatment of early breast cancer.
He sits on the TMG of numerous other breast cancer studies. He is a member of the UK Breast Cancer Clinical Study Group and has served as Chair of the Scottish Cancer Trials Breast Group, Clinical Lead for the Scottish Cancer Research Network (SCRN) – West, and as a member of the Breast Cancer Now Scientific Advisory Board and the West of Scotland Research Ethics Committee.
